Recommend me some books that can change how you view the world. Books that make you see the world how it really is, books that make you cultured.
Psychology books for understanding how people think would be appreciated.

I've read 1984 and it was mind blowing.

Thank you

How it really is? There isn't one proper way of viewing the world, there are many many ways. There is no right and wrong there are just different view points. In saying this, I can't think of books that are you're asking but for the cultured question, I'd suggest reading books set in interesting times or different countries. Electric kool-aid acid test, shantaram and the great shark hunt are great.

The Fall ?

How about The Plague and The First man ?
I recently just saw them in one of the Literature shops in London and was thinking of picking them all up

I'm defiantly getting The Myth of Sisyphus though

Just get em all, they are thin as hell and well written, so you'll work through them in no time, after which you'll be able to form your own opinion. As I said, The Stranger is really easy on Newcomers, as is The Plague, while Sisyphus is a pretty basic introduction to Absurdism.

Cant say much about The First Man and The Fall though. There are people who could give you a far better run down on those works and their merit, but they are busy feeling superior.

>objective

Your opinion explicitly states that there is no such thing as objective truth. If you think a "viewpoint" can be neither right nor wrong then it's meaningless to have one, or to try to find one, or even to ask questions.

You represent the rejection of reality and the death of philosophy. Again, kill yourself.

Well, well... I'm not the anon you're originally quoting but I'll give my two cents into this discussion. I'm sure the Original Poster himself to would gain some insight.

Firstly, right and wrong. What is right, and what is wrong are subjective. If in one country it is respectable to look in someones eyes when you talk and in another it isn't. Then which one is correct? Either looking into, away, or both?

If it's both, and I will argue this point if needed, then there means for somethings there are no universal rights and wrongs.

If someone is looking for, like OP, a outlook on life and how it works then they must ask themselves. In what area, in what time, and from who's perspective. Will a white man in the south in the 1800's treat a black and white man the same; Or a woman and a man? Probably not.

The universal truth to the world is that there is no universal truth to the world. And truths can change over time. If you want to understand how people individually act. Study Psychology. If you want to understand how people in groups act, small and large. Then study Sociology. And if you want to learn about what people should do then study Philosophy.

I might as well right back to what you said because you took the time to write it. What i meant was we all have individual viewpoints and they're right to the individual but that same viewpoint may or is wrong to another anon. Maybe thats what the op meant but i got the impression he meant a universal truth of everything. I dont represent those things at all.

The Drowned and the Saved by Primo Levi genuinely changed my understanding of humanity. It is such an objective discussion, backed up by great skill in articulation. Personally I feel everyone should read it.
