Any literature journal would have standards - a threshold of sorts that writers would have to meet.

If this journal had those, anon would go apeshit when their shitty lit was called shitty and not included, and the thing was trolled into oblivion.

The only way to keep that from happening is to let the shit in with the good stuff.

I'm under the impression that this is just a hater thread, but neverthelesss I'll bite.

We've receieved a truckload of submissions,so we've got quite a few to choose from. Our editing team has also been organized , so that now we have everybody working instead of just an unco-ordinated effort.

the question of streaming submissions is hotly debated, but we may begin doing such. Guaranteed, we'll be selecting what we percieve as the "best" article of each zine section, and place it as the first submission of the section.

Also, we apparently have a few graphic artists willing to illustrate the works of anon.

tldr; everythings going to be ok.

Standardized font and layout. Justified on both sides, like any real magazine or book.

Either spaces between paragraphs, or indented. But either way, standardized.

Hotlink the table of contents, and don't use dashes. It looks sloppy. Make the story title in bold, and the authors name not, or distinguish them someway. Get some real fiction magazine and ape ape ape.

We have the basic problem that if we start excluding content, people complain about us being judges. We're not here to do that - we're simply here to compile.

As such, what you see is what you get. The idea is that 4chan can provide feedback for the authors so that people will learn to produce more interesting material that meets the common standards.

We're not trying to start a publication. We're simply hoping people can have a new avenue for their creativity.

>> No.437346

Although I've said this before.
The first issue was a product of poor organization and rushing to get it out quickly. We felt like we were losing support and wanted to produce something quickly to prove that the cogs were turning.

This was probably a poor choice.

We already have the second issue ready, essentially, but we will not be releasing it until the 30th to give plenty of time for proof reading and back-and-forth between editors and authors to get any mistakes corrected.

The second issue will be better. Both from the quality of the writing sent in, and because of our now improved organization. We feel, to some degree, like we let /lit/ down with the first issue and will not do the same with the second.

also, not that 'Zine' refers to single page format meant to cut and folded into a miniature magazine, and originally the ZWG was meant to collect these and put them on a pdf. Oh how things have changed.

All this project needs is time and basic standards. The basic standards to refuse things like FF7 reviews. The time needed to get a few recurrent writers.

Personally, I am of the opinion that all reviews should be ignored. Not one review out of thousands is worth reading. Even the review of a crazy e-famous autist was boring; that speaks enough by itself.

Wind grew up on the rolling plains of Tsangul, living happily in a small village of traders. One summer, a group of soldiers led in Pasod's name burn down his village because they failed to pay their tribute. Wind's close friend Topaz is kidnapped. Seeking vengeance, Wind sets off on a journey across the world. Before leaving on his journey, however, his other close childhood friend, now a muscular and well-meaning, but horribly dimwitted man named Garnath begs to come. Wind at first says it’s too dangerous, but after the two are attacked by monsters and Garnath does better with his knuckledusters than Wind does with his sword, he agrees and the two set off to rescue Topaz.

the problem is there's so many fundamental flaws with this stuff, from basic grammar to poor word choice, to the fact that most of the published stuff in this zine is probably still in the first draft stage. If you submitted these articles to a real zine, the editors wouldn't waste their time critiquing this, they'd just send a rejection.

First off, thanks for being constructive in your feedback.

Second, I don't think the zine guildmasters (awful title, btw) are competing with any other literary publication. This is more for the lulz, and letting anon read stories by other anons. Some adopt names when submitting the story, but that's only to keep plagiarists at bay and have that recognition going on anyway.

Third, I agree, there are flaws in the work. But I don't think I've ever read anything that is perfect, there's always some weakness in either the author's prose or his vision for laying out the narrative. As someone else said, anons are most likely not serious writers. This is a pleasure society, not one for money or glory.

>> No.439394

>>439363
This is made for free, edited for free, and the writers don't expect anything but lolz for their contribution. Why would you expect something at the level of a real magazine? Half the writers choose to remain anonymous anyway.

>>439392
>As someone else said, anons are most likely not serious writers.

Well, why, with all the millions of books and other zines out there, would I want to waste my time reading shit that wasn't written by serious writers? If they're not going tot take the time to polish it into something presentable, why should I care about it, much less spend my time holding your hand and helping you get better at something you don't even care about?

>This is a pleasure society, not one for money or glory.

Oh my god. You know, even zines like Annalemma which are printed on quality paper, well bound, and have phenomenal contributors and stories are not "in it for the money and glory." They're in it for publishing quality writing and providing it to people who enjoy reading quality work.

>Why would you expect something at the level of a real magazine?

Fine. Edit your fucking writers. Learn to say no to certain submissions. Create a mission statement. If you get a submission where there's a sentence fragment in the first paragraph, tell the author to find it and fix it. If your author is too lazy to title their submission, reject it. If a poem is five lines long and only takes up 1/4 of the page, don't leave the other 3/4 of the page blank. Help your writers strengthen their voice. If something sounds like it's a first draft, reject it.
