Burgeoning filmmaker here, well, I really only do it for fun. So far I've only written bare outlines and let my "actors" improv stuff and then edit the best stuff together.

However I REALLY want to write a full script. I've never really written anything though. So the other day I sat down and stared at the blank page ready to write. But nothing came to me.

What tips would you give an aspiring writer, specifically who wants to write screenplays? I'm guessing I don't really need to worry about 'prose' so much, right?

Do you think Shakespeare didn't worry about 'prose'?

flesh out your characters history's first, it might help give you insight into what they would say, and the sorts of scenarios you could find them in.
You can build the story from there. Doesn't matter if the first one's shit, you just need to get into the rhythm of the creative process.

Why write your own?
Make a film adaptation of an existing play. You'll get practice from it and you'll still have to write in order to flesh it out, with the added benefit of a decent storyline.

That guy who reads scripts for a film production company here again. My best advice is to find a style guide, like how to do correct scene headings etc. and correct length for the kind of thing you're writing and then write how you would for a book. Yes, a screenplay is basically instructions for the director/cast/producers but it has to be evocatively written for them to imagine the scenes (and more importantly, get it made).
