How does /lit/ feel about kindles and e-books?
I just can't seem to get into them, i find myself distracted from the story, i can't seem to finish etc and it just doesn't have the same feel. Am i the only one here who can't seem to make the change, or is it a common feeling among /lit's denizens?

While I dislike them and the gadget-crazed hype around them, I don't mind that people use them.

It continues to drive down the price of used books, making it easier for me to add to my 2,500+ volume library.

If i like the ebook, i buy physical.
I read faster on an ebook, so it makes sense to read a novel in that format first. That way i can shift through more novels a year. I buy physical because i like bookshelf pron.

what, you don't own your own closed circut?
personally, books are conversation pieces, a physical reminder that I should read them, and I can insert my note in them.

I don't have to worry about my battery dying either. enjoy the reliance on electricity.

I've read about 30 books in the last 12 months and every single one has been on my Kindle Fire. The amount of money I would have spent on physical copies compared to what I actually spent is a lot. I like holding the tablet more than a book, it's just more comfortable for me, and I just tap the edge of the screen to turn a page so I can lay down in comfy positions that don't require me to move my arms. I will still pick up a physical copy of a book if I want to read something not available online, I have no problem reading paper books.
One thing that's also nice is that I can annotate the book and highlight and make notes without a) crowding the whole thing with stick notes or b) writing on the book and ruining it.
It's also nice to highlight a word and have the definition pop up.

>> No.4348775

>>4346823
I feel very much the same. I like actually holding a book, and with certain more playful postmodern books it actually damages the immersion to read them from e-readers.

Despite me repeatedly stating that I understand the benefits of e-books but that I'd much rather stick to paper, I still get family members and friends trying to push them on me. They go so far as to claim that I'm just sticking to print books because I want to be different.

Again I can understand the benefits; one of my friends read nothing but cheap magazines before he received a Kindle for Christmas and now he's always reading and I think that's wonderful but I'm tired of being made to feel like I'm awkward for not changing over myself.

Readers, especially e-ink, are great if you're into novels and you have a line on pirating well-formatted/retail ebooks. Stay away from pdf's and hunt for epub or mobi (kindle) or azw3 (paperwhite).

If you're looking to read some pdf textbooks, then look into tablets (or that A4-sized reader from Sony).

I love mine. With little extra weight and space, I have a lot of books on me at pretty much all time. Seeing how I use public transportation a lot, that's pretty handy.

Additional bonus is that mine isn't epaper - I hate that - and as such it also handles images and video.
