Human desire for freedom is purely emotional and inherently irrational. Prove me wrong.

Protip: You can't.

FREEDOM IS A PREREQUISITE FOR RATIONALITY TO BE EXERCISED AND FOR A MIND TO DEVELOP PROPERLY, THEREFORE THE DESIRE FOR FREEDOM IS INHERENTLY RATIONAL.

THE DEFAULT STATE OF BEING IS IN FREEDOM.

PS. YOUR PREMISE IS FALLACIOUS; WHAT IS NOT PROVEN RIGHT CANNOT BE DISPROVED.

I think there is some truth to the statement, however i dont it being irrational or emotional is a bad thing. Logic is restrictive, and without thinking outside of it how would we ever progress?

Most of the people in my country, (Australia) are conservative and stupid as fuck, they have the freedom to kill themselves with fast food, cigarettes alcohol, poker machines etc... If that's what freedom means, we don't fucken need it, 49% of our society is now obese, we don't deserve this freedom.

>> No.4222406

I agree, but it is good that it is so.

>> No.4222412

I can't. Most fights for freedom in history were actually fights for working less and eating more. There are studies which show that freedom of choice creates anxiety and unhappiness, as long as other conditions are the same.

And yet once we have freedom, we cling to it. It's irrational.

1) rationality evaluates it does not act, freedom is not a prerequisite

2) you could argue the burden of proof is on them, but it's very possible to disprove something without it being proven right. in fact, if something is proven right, it can't be disproven, because it's right

May we assume you mean personal freedom?

>Rational (adj.) - Based on or in accordance with reason or logic.
>Irrational (adj.) - Not logical or reasonable
>Freedom (n.) - The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.
>Emotion (n.) - a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one's circumstances, mood, or relationships with others.

I agree with your first point that human desire for freedom is "purely emotional". I think it may be possible to posit that all human desires are "purely emotional", as "desire" entails emotion. So really, that first point was a little redundant, but on to your second point...

>Human desire for freedom is...inherently irrational

To desire freedom is not logical or justifiable. This is where I would disagree. Freedom to act and think as you please maximizes happiness, as you are free to make choices that maximize your own pleasure. It is logical to desire one's own happiness, because that is the nature of pleasure and happiness.

discounting something because its irrational is autism. prove me wrong.

>> No.4223147

Rationality is not the only good way to see things.

There is nothing more lacking of emotion, desire, freedom or humanity than to think otherwise. There is nothing more irrational than to think otherwise.
