/lit/, I want to get into Buddhism (I do have a preference for Zen but still interested in all of it), where do I start? I've already read Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind and several essays.

Also, if I was to read the Pali Canon I wouldnt be able to read all of it probably, which sections should I absolutely read though?

Why?

What change is it seriously going to have on your life?

You gonna start meditating or giving away worldly possessions?

You gonna start saying 'namaste' and breathing in through your nostrils when people greet you?

You gonna move to Tibet and shave your head and practice kung fu?

Seriously, there are girls in your neighbourhood who are currently rubbing themselves raw on household objects that really shouldn't have the capacity for sexual gratification, and they're begging for someone perhaps a little different from yourself to meet them in the street and say 'hey, lady' I know what you want and I know I can give it to you'. That's how you change your life buddy, not by solemnly reading the out-of-date words of a poseur who shits in the woods rather than dealing with his problems.

They make recliners with stand assist because you seem to have a problem with getting up. Talk to your monk about assisted recliners and attachment to outward form.

The Doctrine of Buddha, I have one Portuguese/English edition (I'm brazillian).
It's not a seminal work or complete, but it's a very good starting point.

There's nothing wrong with learning to sit, as long as you don't think Zen is sitting.
