Best/Fav Sci-Fi Authors?

I've recently exhausted Herbert, Haldeman, Varley, R.R. Martin.

You've probably already been around the Big 3 block before. But if you haven't: Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke.

>> No.418842

My personal favourite is Kim Stanley Robinson. His books are only good if you really like the science part of SF; they tend to have a lot of infodumping, which I know turns some people off. However, if you're into hard SF, the Mars series is really excellent.

Philip K. Dick
For reasons that are probably obvious to everyone. He's funny, vicious, depressing and makes you think.

Charles Stross
I discovered this guy about half a year ago, and he writes about the most diverse subjects. The first I read from him is about robots travelling the solar system after humanity has died out, and the one I just finished is about a nerdy civil servant/secret agent in our world, except mathematics make magic possible. Some of it is thought-provoking, some of it a little less, but the man is one of the sharpest people writing today.

All these suggestions'll keep me busy.
