Since we're so adept at language, and comedy IS language, then by all logic we should be the funniest board on 4flan, right?

you're adept at being a nuisance.

>Intelligent things are said by talking
>I can talk
>I am therefore always saying intelligent things

Understanding of a medium doesn't imply mastery of a technique that is allowed because of said medium.
Regardless: I am the funniest, look at this picture. I find this funny, and so I am funny by bringing it to your attention.

im not a /tg lurker but i have seen some pretty funny stuff from there, it beats anything i have seen in other boards.
most of the comedy comes from /b and /v wich doesnt mean its good but its plenty.

WOOPSADAISY

You interpreted 'we're so adept' into 'I can talk'? OP was implying high skill levels. Fuck you for being snide.

>> No.4106744

what has /lit contributed to other boards anyways?

I was just bringing it back to required skills. Being adept at one form of writing, or speech in the example I used, doesn't mean you will be good at all kinds of writing. High level technical writing requires a different kind of ability to comedic writing, for example.
Also, very few of us are actually talented writers. I mean, fuck, I teach primary school kids. I spend my days writing basic compound sentences for retards. Even the lit majors are shit writers here.
Also, /lit/ tends to be too inside of its own collective arse to be funny. Some of the things I read here are hilarious, but most of the time I feel sad.

>no... you got soap in my heart
lyk dis if u cry evry time

I'm personally think comedy is founded in rhetoric and logic instead of grammar and linguistics.

For example, a joke can be translated into several languages. It will still work, only so long as the listener can understand the context and the "argument" of the joke.

What do you guys think? Jokes are an interesting topic, particularly from a literary perspective.

comedy isn't literature

A canoe tips.

Research on jokes tends to be pretty funny itself.
It sounds like cartoon robots trying to understand humour.

>blehafsnaskdfhbakl

fucking germans ruining my literary theory. this tops Gesamtkunstwerk.

Anyway, I've read some academic works on humor, some from schools of literary criticism, and some from schools of psychology. They're ALL obfuscated with endless terminology.

I think it speaks to the sublime that a good joke has: so much of it is obvious, yet also somehow intangible.

I can't tell if you are a troll, or a kid.

Comedy "IS" a number of things, and clever wordplay is one of them. Comedy can also be satirical, slapstick, insulting, unexpected, etc and delivered in as many different ways as we can think of.

(Also, lit has made me laugh way more than any other board)

You're again misconstruing the point. You're focusing on writing, which is not the same as "language".

muh nihilism is in direct opposition with humour.
