You could've picked one of the many non-shitty self-published books out there. But this is /lit/, so that wasn't going to happen, obviously. Herpaderpa selfperblishunnnng is below satan's winecellar-tier.

Yawn.

U mad.

The best self published books I can find have mediocre prose and were proof read once. Not much to get excited over.

Self-publishing is nowadays much easier than publishing companies. Just look at Japanese teens spitting out physical copies of comics twice a year at their Comiket.

Hell, in Japan kids are writing light novels on their god damn cell phones.

I couldn't begin to fathom writing an entire book on a phone. It would be like making a wedding cake in an E Z Bake oven.

Self-publishing is easier only because there's no quality control.

If self-publishing companies had a bot that automatically detected and rejected books with a single spelling error, it would reject more than 50% of what gets through.

short and awful, but still

I remember that my 4th grade teacher wrote two books that year, and that he gave us all a copy of them. I recall reading one of them, but I can't remember what I thought at the time. Funnily enough, I found them on my shelf the other day and laughed at how poorly written they were. I understand that they were written for elementary kids, but the writing is so god awful even for that age group. Both books were self-published, featuring a huge font.

Do you exist under the illusion that traditionally published books have no spelling errors?

Every book has errors.

>> No.4037711

>>4037699
I exist under the reality where editors throw manuscripts into the trash for having spelling errors in the first few pages because it's indicative of the author not giving a fuck about quality.

And while a typo may slip by the paid proofreader now and again, it happens far less often than it does in the realm of vanity publishing-- where it happens all the god damn time because the authors are twelve years old.

Come the fuck on, man.

Self-publishing doesn't have to cost money, unless you're an idiot and get books printed instead of going print on demand + ebooks.

You clearly have no idea what the fuck you're talking about, and base your prejudice on feeling alone rather than informing yourself.

>> No.4040169

Vanity publishing is not self-publishing. It can't be vanity publishing without a publishing house taking cash to put you out.

Self-publishing is stuff like Smashwords or Amazon's KDP.

The not as innocent as it seems bit was my favorite. Perfect example of someone just vomiting words onto the page without paying attention to what the fuck they're actually saying. I say this as someone with impeccable spelling, judging a writer's quality by his spelling is like judging a marksman's ability based on his proficiency at hand loading ammo. It helps, but it is not necessary in the slightest because if you're good enough then someone else will do it for you.
