What book(s) are you planning on reading next?

Just going to say that that's a fantastic cover design.

>> No.3928814

I actually was looking for an edition to buy with this cover, but it turns out this was made by someone for a book cover contest.
It's easily the subtlest, most intriguing one I've seen; I was really bummed when I found out it's not an official cover.

God fucking dammit, that cover is beautiful...

Alternate covers that are better than any currently available general?

>> No.3928829

>>3928822
I'm not fit to participate in this general then. I'm lucky if they bring paperback, censored books to my contry, let alone hardcovers or special editions.

Also, if you want to ship something bigger than a penny, you better start thinking of selling your organs...

I was planning on reading Blood Meridian after I finish Lolita. I started reading it, Lolita, until I realized I could listen to Jeremy Irons read it for me.

I'm going to finish Siddhartha then read Lolita.

Trial is fantastic, subtle and cerebral, really enjoyed it myself. Though nearly the entire middle section of the novel is dry as shit. Get to the end and it's wonderful.

American Psycho is pretty good, pretty engaging. I think he captures the manic and obsessive nature of the protag pretty well, though it does get repetitive. Maybe that's the point; still gets annoying. Otherwise a good read, and humorous at times.

Yeah, a family member wanted me to read it in an attempt to influence a growing young mind. Really, I agree with some points that she makes but generally the prose is horrible, the plot is partially wish-fulfillment, she absolutely butchers subtlety and a lot of her arguments are based entirely on emotion. I agree that society coddles the piteous in order to feel superior and gracious, and a lot of what she says about human nature, but some things are a bit ridiculous and again, the writing is atrocious.

Just finished Wuthering Heights, and found it really enjoyable. Well, I would say, it is one of my favorite love stories, I do like it whether it's school tier o not. The story, the plot and the characters, every single detail is neat and fine. Obviously, I came across various vocabulary problems, while getting used to the style (as I'm not a native). To sum up, the time I spent on reading, about a month, totally worth it.
Now I'm eager to try some "Moby Dick", though I'm not sure if my knowledge of the Bible is sufficient to enjoy fully Mellvil's book. I heard there are a lot of links and allusions to different religions and mythologies.

By the end of summer, I look forward reading "La Colmena".

Also, for those who dare to read Dostoevsky, I would not recommend reading "Idiot", I consider it insultingly overrated. Better try his novel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Raw_Youth . And if you want to get the general idea of what his style is like, you are certain to go for "Notes from Underground". It is only my opinion though.

Go be jelly somewhere else, neckbeard. I've got a full-time job so an audiobook suits me better while driving.

>> No.3929709

>>3928959
I might give the audiobook a listen some day. You probably miss a few things if you aren't able to pause to consider certain passages or look up words, but I'd imagine listening to the language would be a very pleasant experience.

>> No.3929710

>>3929709
Well, I read ahead before I got myself the audiobook and find that now I'm retaining a lot more than just going over it once (makes sense). It's also very soothing to listen to him speak since he does have such a handsome way of talking. I recommend it highly.

>> No.3929714

St. Augustine's Confessions.
Notes from the underground

Then I'll probably finish slow learner and move onto Gravities Rainbow.

I'm currently reading The Kingdom Of God Is Within You, any recs for some more christ-core books?

>> No.3929724

I have something like sixty pages of Lolita left, after which I'll probably read a few Hemingway short stories. They should make for a good palate cleanser while of course being pleasurable on their own.

After that, I'm not entirely sure. I was thinking of either Mrs. Dalloway or something by Manner.
