Read?

Though you will never appear intellectual if you try to force it.

What kind of intellectual you wish to be? In what particular field? What talents and interests do you have? What is your goal in life?

/lit/ needs more sås.

>What kind of intellectual you wish to be?
I don't know.
In what particular field?
I like cinema (well, arts in general), history and a bit of politics.
>What talents and interests do you have?
Talents?None that I know about... Interests? Already said.
>What is your goal in life?
I would like to make movies.

Trying to be something you're not only makes you pretentious.
If you can't make deep films, don't make deep films because it will be terrible. Make trashy urban fantasy movies and work your way up.

Also, I'm pretty sure you have to have inherent talent to be intellectual in the way I'm assuming you want to be. It's just something you see, but I don't doubt you can learn it.

O.k., so first step is to watch a lot of documentaries and read a lot of books on film theory. Needless to say, the natural progression would be to apply to film school. If you cannot afford it or you're too old for that, try www coursera org

Next step, and this is serious, try to pick a very, very obscure and exotic filmmaker who few know about and read the shit out of his life and works, and then become the authority in that particular filmmaker, so you can publish in journals or film magazines and there would be nobody who could refute you, because you've be THE knowledgeable one in that filmmaker. That will become your niche, and your path towards being considered an intellectual.

Make sure that when you write or speak about that obscure, marginal, and unknown filmmaker, you draw all kind of outlandish parallels between his or her work and exotic theories and fields, and search for really complicated references with other fields of knowledge or theories like behavioral economics, gender theory, psychoanalysis, and the like.

You're welcome.

Become tangentially interested in science. You don't actually have to know anything in particular, just that as an institution it exists and you like what it does. Try liking the God Delusion or The Origin of the Species on Facebook.
