Hey /lit/, I think you should be able to help me out.
I want to start reading Lovecraft's stories about the Cthulu-Myth and now I'm asking you with which stories I should start.

I just know a bit about the whole myth, so it would be nice to start with stories, which still explain it.

shadow over innsmouth was my first one and i think its very good for an introduction to lovecraft

sinister and unwelcoming atmosphere, moody introduction into the whole myth, also some action

so it offers a good mix to get to know lovecraft

I agree with this. Coming from somebody who read all of them in a few months in high school, here are a few recommendations:

>Pickman's Model
>The Rats in the Walls
>The Music of Erich Zann
>The Dunwich Horror

I wouldn't recommend getting into something longer like At the Mountains of Madness until you know you like the writing, otherwise it will really turn you off.

The Complete Fiction of Lovecraft is about 18 bucks at Barnes and Noble.

Just a heads up

That edition is bad--it's littered with poor formatting and typos.

Get this, it's cherry picked but who reads an authors entire compendium anyway.

Dagon is what the Penguin edition starts with... and I'd recommend that edition, if just for the cover, which makes me smile every time I see it. Dagon's a good place to start an introduction to the horror.

as usually /lit/ demonstrates in shit-tier taste in editions.

Sage for the utter-stupidity.
