Who here likes the Phantom Tollbooth? If not, go away. This is a Phantom Tollbooth thread.

You got there by jumping, didn't you?

No, I got here by not thinking. I'm sitting here in the Doldrums, just wasting time.

This book is just fucking magical.
Look it had Slenderman before Slenderman was cool.

I liked the kid who grew down instead of up. I think his name was Alex.

Alec. My favorite parts were probably the chromatic orchestra and the whole bit with the market square.

It's beautiful.

As a child I loved with the animation. I'd have my parents rent it over and over again from the library, but I never read the book.

Then, many years later, while taking a bunch of recreational adderall and going to a breakbeat show, I was walking along the vacant streets of downtown San Diego thinking magical thoughts when I found a copy laying on the corner like OP's picture, very beat up and worn. What a great prize to have found, I thought, and immediately sat down on the curb and read until dawn.

Watered down Alice but still fun

Alice in Wonderland was about being pointless.
The Phantom Tollbooth is just the opposite.

I read the phantom tollbooth like 10 years ago, and unlike most books, I don't remember a single thing about it

FUUUUUUUCCCKKKKKKK

I REMEMBER THIS BOOK.

I remember finding it wonderfully clever when I was 10. I wonder if I'll still find it so enjoyable.

Then read it again!

Is that the bit with the spelling Bs, and the edible letters?

God, I'm feeling nostalgic as hell.

Yep, that's it.

>>3797110
The book's timeless. It's the kind of book that you read as a child, and rather than looking back on it with disgust as an adult, you can read it again and it'll bring a warm smile to your face.

I'm definitely going to give it another read.
