Are there any good books on the history of music, preferably on Jazz or classical or anything that can increase my knowledge and appreciation of music?

Also, are there any MUST READS on music?

There is an Italian guy who reviews music, he wrote some books on the history of it.

I can't remember his name. I think it was something like Scruffi or Scaruffi.

Mark Levine's "The Jazz Piano book" and "The Jazz Theory Book" are good. If you want the real shit though, try out Miles' autobiography, Dizzy's "To be or not to... Bop" and check out Brad Mehldau's writings:

As far as classical music is concerned, really any comprehensive overview will do you just fine.. The main thing in studying music history is you actually listen to the music from the era; thus you will have a contextual reference for everything that went on during it.
