>> No.3770460

Yes I love Stephen King

>> No.3770597

Is it as good as the dark tower series or the shining?

The version I read was huge, well past 1000 pages I remember.

Despite being a long read, Stephen King manages to hook most readers quick and keeps things simple enough that you’re not bogged down in unnecessary details. His characters in The Stand (and often in other works) are full of life, charm, and are sometimes vile though always interesting.

The ending was a bit of a let down, and there is some filler towards the end. However, as a story from beginning to end, it's very enjoyable and well worth your time.

For Some reason most of his books are a bit of a letdown, for example the dark tower series (although the pros ought weighed the cons)

The resolution is predictable with 150 pages to go, and the ending is really disappointing. I don't think it's worth it.

Does the stand have any magical retards in it?

>> No.3770797

I enjoyed the Stand. Also enjoyed Under the Dome. Stephen King's best books are the long ones with tons of characters.

>> No.3770812

Stephen King is one of my favorite authors, but I always thought that The Stand was overrated.
My favorite book of his (hands down) is It. If you haven't read that one, do it.
Also, check out Dreamcatcher. It's one of his newer ones, but it's really good.

It was really good, never got into dreamcatcher. Besides over 1000 page novels, what are his better short story collections?

>> No.3770867

Got like 33% of the way through and quit because dick was happening.

I haven't enjoyed his short stories as much. If you like short stories that really leave you with a weird feeling after you're done, check out HP Lovecraft. He was one of King's biggest inspirations.

If you want some REALLY trippy stuff, read his Cthulhu stories. That's where he gets into the stuff about extra-dimensional beings and shit.
As far as his short stories go, The Temple, Dagon, and The Tomb are my favorites. They're just good, creepy stories.
