Good morning, Europe!

So, guys, let's take advantage that the U.S.A. is asleep and talk, finally, with some flow. Mainly, we should not expect that much /b/ and /pol/ scum trolling.

What do you make out of this talk by Alain de Botton?

http://www.ted.com/talks/alain_de_botton_a_kinder_gentler_philosophy_of_success.html

My concern, and I admit it, is that whenever I read or hear the word "success", I get itchy and instinctively take a step back, perhaps scalded by the zillions of self-help and the 7 habits of the successful desk rat.

So, is speaking about these issues a "philosophical" concern? How do you feel about philosophers talking about "9 to 5" matters?

>What do you make out of this talk by Alain de Botton?
Not much actually. He barely even scraped the surface of problems; for example his criticism of meritocracy is naive and harmful, for the only downsides of meritocracy for him are the random factors like "something falling on your head". He doesn't even mention social background as a factor. His advice to embrace our own ideas of success is such hypocritical bullshit. This speech is bad. This is certainly not philosophy. And yes, philosophy has everything to do with everyday matters. OP, if you are interested, I suggest you read Umberto Galimberti's The myths of our time (I'm not sure that's the correct translation, but it's something along those lines). His philosophy is thorough, piercing yet therapeutic.

I sometimes dream of being one. Don't know if I would find it boring once there but I would like to try. How did you get that job?

>>3764866
>I thought night classes for adults where on the late afternoon
There are two shifts were I work one that stretches from afternoon to night and one with lesser hours (for those that hold a work that demands more hours) that is just during nights.

There is an incredible shortage of bookkeepers in Europe, at least, and managing well in IFRS makes you surprisingly craved by employers all over the world.
