sometimes i think im depressed because whenever i dont have vacuous short term goals working toward societally-established points of success i start to realize im a weird monkey thing floating on an orb in space and that my existence probably doesnt mean anything and in 30 years the clothes i wear and music i listen to will be considered stupid like people from the 1980s and stuff and in 300 years no one will care that i ever existed and the world will be overpopulated

Then stop bitching and so something that you are going to be remembered for. Write a ground breaking book, conquer a country. Invent the cure for cancer.

A nihilist dodge for pussies.

You man the fuck up soldier! I don't wear kid gloves and especially not for whiney pussy's like you!

You have to beileve that what you will write will matter! So what if all the hip little shits today don't read. Then go make a fucking movie! Show them something they WILL look at!

It 30-300 years only YOU are going to live your life. So do something with it you sniveling little fuck. Or get out of the way of the rest of us so we can!

So they failed. But you know WHO they are, and are likely to be known 300 years from now.

Think of how many times a week or month Hitler gets brought up among your friends. Now think about the fact that the very life you live is because of the war waged by him and others.

What's the alternitive? Die? What a waste of DNA. The monkey's that were your ancestors fought saber-tooth lion and jackel to move up the food chain, to hope that their children would find the answers they had not yet learned to seek.

no. those monkeys fought because they were scared of dying, and no longer existing; to bad, I guess. They had no higher philosophical goal, and nor do you. the only that could ever conceivably matter is that one day you and I will cease to exist, and maybe even that doesn't matter so much anymore.

Even better are those tiny balls are made up of clouds of electrical dust that are held in check by the strength of their nucleus. When broken down further, none of these things can be proven to exist. Furthermore those tiny bits of dust for some reason stay together for periods of time and create self locomotion.

We all maybe monkeys, but we are all forged from the heart of the burning gods in the sky.

>Thus when the ambitious man whose watchword was "Either Caesar or nothing" does not become Caesar, he is in despair thereat. But this signifies something else, namely, that precisely because he did not become Caesar he now cannot endure to be himself. So properly he is not in despair over the fact that he did not become Caesar, but he is in despair over himself for the fact that he did not become Caesar. This self which, had he become Caesar, would have been to him a sheer delight (though in another sense equally in despair), this self is now absolutely intolerable to him. In a profounder sense it is not the fact that he did not become Caesar which is intolerable to him, but the self which did not become Caesar is the thing that is intolerable; or, more correctly, what is intolerable to him is that he cannot get rid of himself. If he had become Caesar he would have been rid of himself in desperation, but now that he did not become Caesar he cannot in desperation get rid of himself. Essentially he is equally in despair in either case, for he does not possess himself, he is not himself. By becoming Caesar he would not after all have become himself but have got rid of himself, and by not becoming Caesar he falls into despair over the fact that he cannot get rid of himself.

>even if im successful im stilla monkey and none of this matter

>Here there is in fact a certain degree of self-reflection, and so a certain degree of observation of oneself. With this certain degree of self-reflection begins the act of discrimination whereby the self becomes aware of itself as something essentially different from the environment, from externalities and their effect upon it. But this is only to a certain degree. Now when the self with a certain degree of self-reflection wills to accept itself, it stumbles perhaps upon one difficulty or another in the composition of the self. For as no human body is perfection, so neither is any self. This difficulty, be it what it may, frightens the man away shudderingly.

Just finished it. I'm danish, and i've read most of Kierkegaard, and i must say it's some of the best.

It's page 107 in a danish version, where he says that no person is born 'spiritless', and even though many bring this (spiritlessness) with them into death, it is not the fault of life.

He also said something about the person who have no comment on Jesus. It was some of the best descriptions for the post-modern man i have read in a long time, centered around "if you have no meaning concerning God, have you no meaning about that either?"
