1. What e-reader would you recommend? Price range < 200$

2. How easy is it to read pirated books with them?

3. As I will be reading pirated copies mostly, I want one which is compatible with different filetypes.

>> No.3744057

I have a Nook Simpletouch that I'm in love with. Simple to use, battery lasts forever, and has an SD slot. I use Calibre to convert everything to ePub, and I read joyfully and more constantly than I ever have.

>> No.3744062

>>3744040

If you download Calibre, you can convert filetypes to whatever type you need, so this shouldn't be an issue.

>> No.3744071

Get yourself a Kindle Paperwhite or a Kobo Glo. I got a preference for the Glo, but that's just me.

thanks, I'm downloading Calibre right now.

Pirated copies can be read as well?

>> No.3744075

>>3744067

As long as it's the right file type for your device, then yes. But like anything, the quality of the pirated file depends on the source. Some are much better formatted than others.

Yep, you can throw anything in EPub or PDF on it.

eInk vs TFT

Is it worth the extra 50$ that eInk seems to imply?

eInk is pretty wonderful to read with.

I've limited down to Kobo Touch vs. Glo. Glo costs 20$ more. Anyone can give his 2cents?

Also: the sleeves are 40$, should I get one?

Glo has a backlight, so you can read in bed and not have to be buggered to go turn on the light.

I own a Glo and couldn't live without the sidelight. It's pretty neat, I think it's worth the 20$

Yeah, user reviews indicate its a nice addition.

I will go with the Glo, and I will buy a cheap universal sleeve online for 5$ instead of the kobo sleeve.

Thanks everyone

There are kindle 3rd gen (free 3g) refurbishes being sold on ebay for $50. It's a steal and probably the most functional ereader still around. I feel like this should be in the sticky.

isnt it only online to the amazon account that bought it?

I've got a Kindle Fire HD that I really love. It's pretty small, has a decent battery and sort-of kind-of doubles as a tablet. It's got a backlit screen which I love, but some people aren't up for that

>> No.3745029

The Kobo Glo is whereizzat.
Got me one 'nd I haven't looked back
Go with paperwhite if yo momma be so fat

Pirated books are much easier to read than purchased ebooks, because purchased ones have DRM on them that limits both the type of device it can be read on, and the number of different devices. DRM ebooks also can't be converted in Calibre, while with pirated ebooks you can get whatever format and convert it to a format your reader understands.

I have tried several and the most popular readers are actually pretty good.

My personal preference is the Sony PRS-650 reader touch.

It works flawlessly. Using it for more than a year and a half without a single issue/freeze/restart/etc.

You can run most file types on it. Epub, pdf, rtf, txt (doc must be converted, it should be automatic with the PC reader app, but I've never read a doc in two years lol).

All my books are pirated. No need to root it or anything. Works with all pirated shit out of the box.

The latest in this line is the PRS-T2, but my point is that you could get a 650 touch much cheaply and it will serve you the same purpose.

For less than 200 get a Kindle Fire.
Unless you're looking for e-ink. If so go with sony.

My only gripe with my KF that was given to me. is memory, which is unexpandable.

1. Just go with the best price and features. I wanted a color tablet so I could browse the web, too (though it's mostly an abysmal experience).

2. Very. Torrents and http://calibre-ebook.com/
The publishers are daft if they think $8 is a fair price for a 20 year old novel. And, as with music, when they remove DRM is when I'll start buying again.

3. Most torrents have all formats, but Calibre can convert them if it doesn't.
