Hey guys. I'm starting on Plato in school next Monday, and i know close to nothing about him. It's a big flaw, i know, just really never got into greek philosophy even though i know it influenced most modern.

Anyway, someone mind saying anything clever about him? Dont care much about the objective bs i can find on wikipedia, would rather hear some possible critique etc.

>objective bs
>someone mind saying anything clever about him
i swear, the biggest fucking idiots on earth get into philosophy.
enjoy your superficial grasp and innumerable misinterpretations of the greek backbone.

Yes, i knew the "objective bs" wording was hasty, but i merely ment the "hard facts" (date of birth, name of the works, timeline, etc).

Don't get me wrong, i respect the ancient philosophies, i just never found it interesting compared to the modern literature i enjoy.

Don't read the washed out books that show him only as a "rational man".

Read the complete story. He was a mystical man with religious beliefs. Believed in something similar to reincarnation and he had beliefs in gods.

Plato, and his creation, Socrates, is the most important Philosopher in the canon and no one who studies Philosophy will ever admit this.

Because what would we ever do without Forms or philosopher-kings?

(I can not think of one thing Plato ever said that I outright agreed with. He's only ever had value in figuring how to think.)

Which is exactly the point.

Philosophy is more about the power of thought processes and less about actual conclusions, as useful as they can be.

And you view that as a bad thing

It is?

Funny, I thought and still think the exact opposite.
