Culturally speaking, what is it about Germany that has made it so based at producing philosophers?

Doesnt explain where the reflective/philosophical impulse came from in the first place.

Same with composers

Germany is geographically located in the center of Europe, allowing it to more easily synthesize the most interewting ideas of Western and Eastern Europe, Scandanavia and the Mediterranian.

Germans are fucked up in the head. That's why.

>> No.3641262

Like Italy, it unified relatively late. Until that point, you had a number of independent and vibrant courts capable of accommodating and encouraging intellectual progress. A similar phenomenon was observed during the 'Scottish Enlightenment', a disproportionately high number of universities (relative, that is, to the more populous England) emerged independently. Other factors contribute, though. Germany - even when the term would have been anachronistic - is geographically central, traditionally prosperous and large.

>> No.3641270

>>3641262

Hmm, I thought the cultural domination by Germany of the divided, reactionary, courts in the late 16th and 17th century stunted the nation's cultural growth - relative to France and England.

>> No.3641280

>>3641270

Well, the nation formally unites in 1871. Goethe, Schiller, Hoffman, Schlegel and Lessing were all writing before then. I'm sure there are arguments for and against the cultural significance of the courtly system.

German is a language that allows you to make up words on the fly, whilst still being understandable by all. As such, the language itself it built to allow for novel interpretations of different topics.

one dude -probably hegel- started writing on a subject and the tradition continued in those same towns and cities because the language was similar. it would be much later before the stuff could be translated. if anyone else wanted to contribute to the tradition, they'd inevitably be behind the times.

The reformation and the language itself.
There's a certain need for accuracy when expressing yourself that sort of forces you to be accurate and reflected.
On the other hand, it's rather flexible so you can do a lot with it such as creating terms that can immediately be shared and understood.
Also ((>>3641244)) this.

We dropped the a-bomb on the wrong country if you ask me. The Teutonic ''philosophy'' does nothing better than expose the German people for their utter lack of vivacity. Dead culture is dead.

It is because it has a history of being an affluent area. It produced more than just philosophers, it produced mathematicians, physicists, composers, artists, and every other kind of intellectual. To focus on just philosophers distorts the history and culture of Germany. Intellectuals will be found in every country that has had economic prosperity.
