Why is it so dense and dry, /lit/

>> No.3596859

Because it was written for a culture vastly different than yours more than a thousand years ago?

Older doesn't always mean better and more entertaining. While this book is interesting it is a bitch to wade through.

What should I read next after I finish this?

You should read "how to take control of your own life and stop being subservient to others" or "making your own choices in life".

But why?

It really isn't. I was expecting dense and dry shite, but when I started the thing, it reads surprisingly modern. It has a clear introduction, going through what has been thought on the subject before, and then just happily strutting onward, improving everything he comes across.

It's a collection of lecture notes. On METAPHYSICS. What the fuck were you expecting?

>Because it was written for a culture

What are you implying? It wasn't written 'for' anything.

>It's a collection of lecture notes
This is what i mean, it wasn't written to being read later.

It's even more retarded that this poster implies, since it werent lecture notes on metaphysics, it was random lecture notes, and out of all of those, people back in Rome, can't remember who did it, collected all the notes that had to do with specific subjects.

That is, every note containing something about what is not called metaphysics was put in this 'book', which consists of all of these small pieces of which Aristotle hadn't wanted us to read.

Metaphysics was coined by some guy putting this work together, or translating, i can't remember, and didn't even exist as a word when Aristotle lived.

Why did you try to read that one? You should have read the Ethics. And if you already had, then you should've read it again
