The secret is out guys; why would you read?

>> No.3463925

So I don't post statuses like that.

>tfw you don't get outraged at 16yearoldonfacebookbeingdumb.jpg but this kind of anti-intellectualism and "proud to be a moron" behaviour is actually pretty grating irl

>> No.3463941

What really gets me is not that they don't read, it's that these people don't even want to read. They have zero fucking curiosity, and it simply blows my mind.

>> No.3463956

>>3463928
If you stop letting it bother you, and start hanging out with dumber people, you can expand their intellectual horizons just by explaining things in simple terms.

You might not be able to get them to read, but if you're a nice guy, you can probably convince them of its merits.

One of my closest high school friends was a fuckup and a drug dealer, who thought reading was for fags, but now I'm introducing him to more and more literature, and I've got him interested in expanding his mind.

Some people just need a little nudge.

Why, do you actually do that?

You can be curious without reading though :/

Not defending the anit-intellectualism, just saying.

All of my fucking rage.

>> No.3464001

I don't mind people who don't read. I know plenty of very intelligent people who read very rarely.

That said, I dislike people who boast about not reading or cannot see what others gain from it.

>> No.3464008

>>3463941
This. I can't comprehend how on earth you couldn't be curious to understand something. Isn't that supposed to be the essence of mankind? curiosity?

>> No.3464063

Well reading is like hard and stuff. I definitely prefer to watch tv and crack a bear open after a hard day's work.

Luckily I don't work hard or even at all so that gives me plenty of time to read

for me it goes even beyond that, it seems like the person in the OP and others like them actually get pride out of not reading.

so not only are they not curious/don't have a will to learn, but they even think more highly of themselves than those that read/want to learn/know/understand

I don't even want people like this to read. It makes me happy that he doesn't. He'll probably make a fine worker though to provide the bohemian lumpenaristocracy with welfare and benefits so that we have more time to dedicate to the arts.

Ironically, I think the status was ironic/troll.

It's too aware of itself being stupid.

but you have to admit the #im.a.rebel

hashtag seemed a bit ironic/mocking the stupidity of people who would actually be dumb enough to post that.

What about not reading makes you a rebel? And what kind of person would sincerely say they were a rebel for not reading?

Neck deep in Poe's Law here but that only illustrates that if you're ever thinking "would anyone ever be dumb enough to ____" the answer is almost certainly yes.
