Someone explain this shit to me.

Is Severian a rapist?
Did he actually fuck his grandmother?
Is he actually Jesus?

>> No.3444407

Probably
I don't even, I heard that shit but never put it together myself
Probably yes, Gene Wolfe is a Catholic. Catholic authors love their Messiah myths.

Stopped reading when he rode in to meet the autarch on a giant blood covered rhinoceros in his kill pose.

Sorry but that's not good writing.

Vodalus isn't even the cunting Autarch.

Good job not even getting close to halfway into the story before making shitty calls on what's good writing or not, nevermind you didn't even pay attention regarding who is who.

Am I missing something or are you just using a very different definition of "writing"? GW may use very imaginative concepts that are disliked by some but you can't honestly say his writing isn't good.

Yeah this was in book two. I think that's good enough for an author to establish whether he's shit or not.

I edit slush piles and I'm considered gracious for reading beyond the first three pages before issuing judgment. I think 1.5 books is plenty generous.

>Is Severian a rapist?
No. He wouldn't object to raping somebody on moral grounds, but he's too beta and cowardly to go ahead and do something like this.
>Did he actually fuck his grandmother?
Probably.
>Is he actually Jesus?
No, he's a messiah figure, but not Jesus. Jesus is also a messiah figure, but not every messiah figure is Jesus. (One of the points of the novel is that their future society is so old and messed up that their religions aren't able to distinguish the two any longer.)

I'm guessing you think that whole scene was too cartoonish or something. Well see, there's nobody that can write that, get away with it and be hailed as one of the best living authors by names much bigger than you, other than a damn good writer.

Professional skimmer you say? No wonder you got Vodalus and the Autarch mixed up, and since that's basic shit I'd hate to hear what else you'd have to say about this work.

Implying you'd even recognize good writing if it came up and fucked you in the ass without lube.

Didn't he rape Jolenta at some point though

He fucked her proper on the boat but she seemed pretty down with the cause. Or did he drug her or something, hard to recall, she was acting like a sleepy cunt

I bet you think that line is well-written.

Protip: it's not.

I don't think it was meant to be well written. It was just using a gross metaphor to carry an important point that you were apparently too dense to understand, so let me rephrase it clearly for you: your post was fucking idiotic and it shows you don't know anything about what is good writing.

Isn't that the point? He writes whatever he wants, and that part was quite ambiguous. Enough for the reader to make assumptions given Severian's unreliability as a narrator. Besides, he mentioned Dorcas was pretty mad at him. I suppose they would have kept it secret if it was consensual.

Yea My bet is that he fucked Jolenta since Dorcas was pissed at him and wouldn't put out. If I'm not mistaken Jolenta was already kinda digging him when she wasn't all over Dr.Talos

You're on the wrong board, son. This isn't the place to discuss your chickmagnet classics bookshelf, filled with classy hardcovers you've never read and have no intention of reading.

The plot thickens. Man it's time to re-read.

Considering all that happened, I'm totally not surprised at some of the comments on Severian being a beta.

This book is one of the kind that needs to be read several times. At first I thought it was just about some guy killing people for money and banging every woman he saw, but when I turned the last page I was wondering what the fuck I had just read.

I think the whole "use real words instead of made up words" should be used in more fantasy novels. E.g. "fuligin"

No, that's just Gene Wolfe. You can tell the guy is in control of every word he writes.

That entire trip back to the Citadel, and that chapter when he first meets Valeria and when he goes to see her again at the end

Man, there's something about those parts that deeply moved me. It was so dreamy and vibrant, the atmosphere and all. Shit it's hard to put to words.

And that fucking part about the Ascian guy telling a story with state-approved aphorisms.

What the fuck. This really blew my mind and made me revise many conceptions I had about language. I wish he had expanded more on the Ascian language though.

Oh man, all of those stories were great, also the one about the artificial man killing the sea god. I was sad as fuck when the camp got attacked and everyone died, it felt like you lost some friends man.

And shit, don't get me started on that damn alzabo, the story decided to go full horror with that shit. Little Severian..and.. Typhon...I have to say for those are two of the most chilling parts of the entire story.
