To be honest with you, I haven't listened to Bedlam or Octahedron yet. However, I DID listen to Noctourniquet, which I really liked. Some great hooks on that record, which I guess is part of why many fans thought it was a step towards generic pop-rock or Muse-like theatrics.

I'm not quite so harsh on it. 6 or 7/10, I'd say. Not enough prog wankery for my liking, but a really solid effort.

To put it in perspective, I consider Deloused an 8/10 and Frances a 9/10.

Well, it is nostalgia rock, but it isn't lame in my opinion.
He certainly is passionate, and a fairly talented musician. However, I feel like both the LPs have been slightly over-produced, but that's just my personal taste. Overall, some very cool stuff going on there, I look forward to Tame Impala's future releases.

Make sure you check out the Tame Impala ep and add in any other demo's Kevin made but didn't put into the ep. It's got his mixing not like Innerspeaker and Lonerism by Dave Fridman. The ep has more of a fuzzy/lo-fi sound and it's more stoner rock.

His instrumentals are really good on his girlfriends album that he also produced. >>3412048

Usually my opinion is different to most with which is the bands best album but I think Sea Change is the best by far. Beck had just broken up with his long time girlfriend(hence the album name), was depressed and just made this amazingly colourful(feelz)album. I'd say it's a good place to start, it's him at his most mature and the instrumentals are amazing.

You have to listen to it in a certain setting or it's just not gonna do anything for you. Put it on your cell phone or iPod or whatever and listen to it in a room with no or little outside noise. Focus on how it tapers off, and then picks back up. Sounds incoherent and abstract just for the sake of it, but it all come together in the end, and it works. Try to understand it as you're listening to it. Also helps to know that this whole album was pretty much improvised.

Regardless of anyone's taste, it's nice to just have a chill music thread without the bullshit and abuse that comes with a busy board like /mu/.

I sadly haven't been able to listen to Boc on acid yet, I did listen to Innerspeaker though and that was fucking amazing.

I can only imagine BoC would be amazing.

Are you a fan of Tycho and Four Tet? I see Tycho as having a BoC sound and Four Tet as good and amazing as BoC.
Some other bands you may not have listened to and like:
Shlohmo
Bonobo
Teebs

Ha, well thanks.

Never could get into any pre-OK Computer Radiohead. I might need to retry The Bends since I only gave it a cursory listen.

lol. Yeah I hate that shit.
I think on some level those people are just intimidated by the notion of someone judging their taste negatively or something. I personally enjoy opening up that discourse. I have the most interesting discussions with people who think my taste is terrible.

>> No.3412336

>>3412331
Yeah, that's probably it. Maybe I come on too strong with the question, though I think otherwise.

I've never had anyone who's listened to my taste come along irl, so I've never had that discussion. Though I'd like to. It'd be fun.

I find it funny that a thread not even about literature grew faster than any other thread I've seen on this board. Nice going, idiots.

I did the same thing and thought The Bends was eh but then I gave it proper listens last year and couldn't stop listening to it, it's a really good album and it's interesting to hear the progression from bends to ok computer.

In Bends you can hear that they're starting to get progressive and especially Jonny and Ed's guitar work is beginning to become like it is on OK Computer.
My favorite part of the album, something about it I really like.

starts at 2:08 and ends 2:20
something about the guitar just relaxes me so much, I want the whole song to be that sound but if being that short forces to listen over and over again to get to that point(the whole song is good too though)

Also really nice cover.

I love that guitar bit from Just that you linked, but it doesn't make me think of Radiohead at all. If no one had told me it was Radiohead I would never have guessed. I'll definitely give the album another go, just the same.

>>3412352
Love the production on this thing. If they free themselves up structurally I can see them really becoming something special. The Radiohead comparisons aren't completely ridiculous.

>>3412358

That's why The Bends is awesome. Once you rape the hell out of OK computer, KId A etc you go and listen to The Bends and it's something new. It sounds different but it's still them. That little sound bite is so different to them, that's why I love it, it's like wow, another side of Radiohead. I'd been listening to all their stuff for years so The Bends was just a breath of fresh air.

Just don't even bother with Pablo Honey, even Thom thinks it's a fuckup.
