I hate the republic. The book reads well, but plato's ideas are awful. I really don't agree with his stance on breeding. If anything, most people I've known who were born of elitism usually don't turn out as glorious as their parents. Look at the current state of the world, the oligarch are twits whom inherited their status.

Children should NOT be raised by the state because bureaucracy will be accurate enough to do ANY method justice. If anything, when you are being raised by the state, you grow resentful of your caretakers.

It's hypocritical to piss all over Christians while worshipping the ideologies of Aristotle, Plato, and other irrelevant fossils (who believed equally as retarded stuff (sun revolves around the earth, mass effects gravity, humans were made out of clay, etc)).

You read it wrong. There is definitely a climax.

>> No.3349068

>>3349054

The book is a set of tiny, gradually building climaxes, and then a separate set of subtle but still evident climaxes, and then a third set of multiple decayings of tension. There isn't one specific explosive culmination of the multiple threads. Rather, each thread fluctuates between several climaxes throughout the entire book.

Unless Gately's fight is what you consider the climax. Honestly, when I was reading it, I chose to take it as more of a "slice of life" novel than a gargantuan super-narrative where all the plot threads mystically mesh eventually. The spectacle is just "Look at all these various plots! They're all individually explored pretty deeply, right? Isn't that enjoyable in itself? They don't even *need* to be related in any other way than 'tangentially.'"

Each main storyline has a climax. Hal falls apart, which takes place in the beginning. Gately's beating and subsequent refusal to take pain meds. He was sort of redeemed. Obviously, there's a lot more to it, and you're right that there are several subclimactic events along with "decayings of tension" -- but... The main protagonists -- Gately and Hal, both reach conclusions, although they are certainly not in the traditional framework.
