Is nihilism just depression??

Consider: depression is nonexistent, practically it's just under-stimulation, AKA boredom, as our lives get easier, the less "happy" we are.

So: is nihilism the result of the mass institutionalization of society on the whole? Is that what will end society, not nuclear war or disease or famine or aliens but one grand shrug of atrophy?

everything you said except for the last sentence: yes.

You've never been depressed and have never experienced hardship in your life, have you?

Having a brain that's constantly under-stimulated isn't the same thing as a temporary state of 'boredom'. And none of this has anything to do with nihilism.

What? Not at all

Depression can arise from many causes

And for me it certainly isn't understimulation

If anything, it's excess of negative stimulation

This is literally the most bizarre description of depression ever

It sounds like like you're trying to describe ennui

Depression is caused by a lack of serotonin and other chemical neurotransmitters. Your nihilism doesn't cause depression. Your depression causes nihilism.

And what does any of this have to do with any of what you posted

I don't even know where to begin

You really need to take some basic Psych and Neuroscience classes because nothing of what you're saying is in any way connected or makes a lick of sense

That's psuedo science bro, you can't even prove that depression is real, you can only say that these people have similar symptoms. Psychology is bullshit and most of it is just theories anyway so you lie when you talk about it like it's the truth.

agreed. up till now, treatment for depression is mostly guesswork and fiddling with drugs.

If you think Seinfeld is depressing yea I guess so. If you think Seinfeld is a hilarious television show which made millions of people laugh for years even though it was rooted basically in a nihilistic attitude towards life then no. Nihilism can be very invigorating, Nietzsche certainly seemed to exhibit this type of attitude from time to time.
