So /lit/,

What is Art? How would you define it?

I DEFINE ART AS THE THING THAT ESCAPES DEFINITION

I really hate anyone who says "2deep4u" or "3edgy5me" or anything like that. It's almost as if you have no personality of your own, so you use internet slang and memes to simulate what it might be like to actually be human.

For me, the greatest mistake most people do when defining art is thinking of objects. A book, a painting, sound, those things are not art, not because they are not artistic, but because they are metonyms for what art means. Much like we point to something as "my work" when it is actually "the product of my work".

The word art comes from the latin "ars", which means "craft". The smith, the baker, it doesn't matter, they were doing art. It was later that we separated certain types of work from the word art. There is a difference between an artisan and an artist, even though I myself don't like this separation.

But point is, art is a process. Not "a thing". It's something you do, something that happends.

And for me it is the process that makes the connection between ideas and things, language and stuff, arbitrary and order. It's a process that occurs in our heads, in our eyes and senses, through our hands, through our guts. You speak through it but it simultaneously speaks through you.

It is not necessarily the expression of individuality, not necessarily laborous or demanding skill, not necessarily pure and useless, not necessarily idealized or conceptualized, not necessarily beautiful.

Art is an aesthetic experience. That is redundant because aesthetic is "to feel", it is the experience of art. Whether it is an art shown through a product of the labour of nature (one could argue God) or the labour of human expression.

Art is sensing and doing. The extra-ordinary craft.

How come this gets ban but /sci/ and /pol/ trolls don't? Or are they going to ban those too from now on?

Anyway, I could understand deleting your thread, though I don't think it was a problem having it there. But this one is a discussion thread, much like all philosophy discussions here that cite scholars and thinkers who, evidently, wrote books about the subjects. Art is in the humanities like history is, it is serves /lit/ well as a field to be discussed.

Both of those threads are /lit/ related pal.
