But when you say "the whole series", you're including the Expanded Dune universe? Not just the original 6 books by Frank?

dune is about a white guy who gets to join a space age bedouin culture and be More Native Than The Natives. he fucks a hot native girl and they make him their chief.

there's some scifi trappings - instead of being about the salt trade out of the Middle East it's about a magic spice that makes you psychic from an Oriental-themed desert planet, and instead of camels the indigenous people have Space Worms, but it's basically a really shitty allegory for colonial Britain.

There are some industrial trappigs, instead of bieng out of the silk trade out of the MIddle ieast its about salt trade that makes you rich, from an oriental themed desert, and instead of horses they have camels, but it's basically a really shitty alelgory for imperialist Rome.

I've read the three immediate prequels, The Butlerian Jihad, and The Machine Crusade. I wouldn't recommend any of those.

speaking of, I read the first one years back and never moved on because of fear of the series taking a nosedive, which ones are worth reading if not all, does on in particular "ruin" it?
