So I'm trying to augment my reading speed and comprehension. Should I get these kind of books, or should I buy an actual book and read everyday? I was thinking of either getting that book or the short story in the recommended readings. My nelson denny score says I have a 14.1 total. However, I'm not satisfied with it.

Why does it make you not satisfied? Why are you even taking scores on this matter? Are you really going to waste time with a book on how not to waste so much time with books?

Read at your pace. There is no reason why not. You are not competing with anyone, so don't try to compete with yourself like that because you'd lose just as much as you would win. Point is: stop trying to anything and just read.

And to comprehend more, just go slowly building your references, read more and more varied books, watch films, talk to people. Comprehension means connecting things up. It only becomes better when you feel it became better.

Also, don't pay attention to these scores, you'll gain nothing from them. Stop trying to measure yourself so much.

Get piracetam. Ask /fit/ or google about it for more info.

Not op, are there any similar tests I can take free online?

I'm in a CC, and I want to thrive in my classes. I don't consider my reading comprehension adequate for classes like Chemistry or a higher level English class where I have to do a lot of reading.

>Why are you even taking scores on this matter? Are you really going to waste time with a book on how not to waste so much time with books?

Well, I took it for my remedial reading course. As I figured, my scores were terrible, and as I continued to read, my reading improved. However, my reading still isn't ample to where I'll be successful in harder classes like in the hard sciences. That's why I'm taking another remedial course next semester.

Well, I guess I'll go to barnes and noble and find H.P. Lovecraft: Tales. I've heard great things about him, so I'll start with him.

i tried piracetam for a couple of months once, it was nasty and smelly and gave me gross farts and i'm 90% certain the effect it has on people who like it is mostly placebo + internet groupthink

as for reading faster, OP, why do that? i (and probably most of /lit/) read well above my age in speed and comprehension when i was younger, but when i started reading "real" books instead of young adult fantasy, i ended up slowing my pace half because i had to but half deliberately to get more out of it. i can still skim ok if i have to read something technical but reading quickly generally isn't a good thing, and probably anyone you will meet in this life who mentions how quickly they can read reads absolute trash and barely understands/remembers it

incidentally lovecraft was a weirdo creepy xenophobe guy with really disgustingly tell-don't-show writing that follows an easily recognisable formula best described as "stuffy old professor summons a frog monster and goes insane", but enjoy! that's no reason you shouldn't read his stuff, just remember who wrote it
