Any recommendations on books that put things into perspective for you? Preferably something short and not pretentious.

Depends for what kind of perspective you are looking for. Personally I'd recommend The Stranger by Camus or TULOB by Kundera for starters.

Read the Stranger, but not really a fan of absurdism.

I'll check out TULOB.

To be honest with you, I don't really know myself. I want to be inspired or take comfort in some truth.

The last one I read was Survivor and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
