I don't see a book in his hands.

>> No.3057469

I just watched it. It was fucking beautiful. It's a shame he didn't get the freefall record too.

With the youtube and redbull views, there was a total of 15 million people watching live. I think it's incredible that so many people are globally united for something like this, and will sit down and watch an event live on the internet.

Too right. Couldn't they have just given him a baggier suit or something? And did he end up breaking the sound barrier?

>With the youtube and redbull views, there was a total of 15 million people watching live.

Each country had it's own live stream too; the Redbull and Youtube were just American. I watched the German one, which had 3 million views. Global views were more like 50 - 100 million.

at least the chess guy had an argument, but babby cup and some guy jumping out of a hover craft doesn't have a chance

If he had spread his arms out he would have got the freefall record, he was only about 10 seconds off.

I don't know about the sound record, he was falling around that speed(760mph) when he first jumped. My stream ended as soon as he landed and they didn't say if he actually broke it or not.

If they managed to get a hovercraft 24miles up in the air, it would have been more impressive than the jump.

If you look at his cockpit, you can see pages from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas pinned to the wall-- Now it's /lit/ related.

"We were somewhere around New Mexico on the edge of the stratosphere when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should fly..." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the balloon, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the cabin pressurised..."

This guy has some massive balls. I bet he experienced more than 10G's at that point when he was freefalling and spinning out of control.

He should have been at my mate Jasons house last weekend. We had a bag of mushrooms, a few bottles of oramorph and got higher than this guy could ever dream of.

The guy's called Felix Baumgartner. Try the Red bull website, they were hosting a stream and might have highlights. Failing that just wait an hour or so and youtube will have the vids. The jump itself only lasted about 5 mins.

Still in the stratosphere(pic related - about 39km). But at that altitude it is almost a vacuum, with no air resistance. As soon as he jumped, gravity will have taken hold with almost the same force as being on the surface of earth, but due to the lack of air resistance he wouldn't feel anything; it would feel like floating in space. It was also due to the lack of atmospheric resistance that enabled him to fall, almost immediately, to the the speed of sound. Though you wouldn't have seen the sonic boom vapour trails that are left by concord and other supersonic crafts.
