Gonna agree with this guy, its a fun book to read on the shitter or at the beach, but its certainly not great by any means. Its pure 100% pulp, which isnt a bad thing, but also not a great thing. You are either a plebian or a hs student.

Why dont you give a real book like Blood Meridian, Foucalt's Pendulum, or His Master's Voice a shot, to say nothing of dabbling in postmodernism.

I must say that I liked Battle Royale.
It's easy to read and has a good story, can't say that everybody will like the story. But if you like the idea of putting a school class on a island and letting them kill each other, then I think you will like the book.

I read All Quiet on the Western Front and have never read anything before or sense that was as depressing. What other books are there out there?

Not anything off of the top of my head. All Quiet on the Western Front is probably in my top ten novels of all time.
