I just use Open Office Libre or whatever it's called.
I use that one because it's free and it does what I need it to.

Won't say that it's the best, but MS word is what I use.

I just use Word. It only takes about 3 seconds to open any sized file on my machine.

For notes I just open notepad.

Seriously, it doesn't matter. I could write in machine code if I had to, I'd still write the exact same as I would if I wrote in Word. I don't get the big fuss over which program you use.
