That's a good question. When I started out reading, I want to establish the habit of every everyday for the rest of my life. I thought 30 pages per day is good because that adds up to many books over the years. I guess the "30 pages per day" habit kinda stuck.

Right now I'm trying to eliminating my habit of surfing the internet so I can read more.

For example, every morning when I wake up, in a hazy state I would read on 4chan for 30 minutes for I'm "fully" awake. So instead of reading 4chan I read on my e-reader, so I'm averaging around 30 to 50 pages.

I also think I'm reading more then 30 pages per day, because 30 "e-pages" isn't the same as paperback.

For example, now I'm reading Kafka on the Shore" by Haruki Murakami. (Progress: 10 out of 356 e-pages. Real paperback page count is 480 pages)

Yeah, some of the books you list is sub-par but I enjoy reading it because it helps me with my goals.

Nowadays I'm really picky with what I read (ie, read good books only)

The last book I just finished today is "Surely You're Joking, Mr FeynMan" by Richard P. Feynman and now I'm reading "Kafka on the Shore" by Haruki Murakami.

I rarely read fiction.

>Depends on how you define books. Every middle aged woman I know reads shitty James Patterson books.

That's a good question. I don't consider trashy fiction to be "books" but trash entertainment (ie, 50 shades of gay, twlight etc)

Perhaps this is why I rarely read fiction except for the classics.
