So I decided to buy a Friedrich Nietzsche book and of course I picked the wrong one.
The will to power.
Fuck me.
What are your favorite Nietzsche books?

Is there a chart of which Nietzsche books to start with. Maybe even including a contemporary introductory book?

The Portable Nietzsche was immensely helpful to me when I was first getting into his works, as was The Basic Writings of Nietzsche.

It's a good way to kind of dip your toes into the books which appear in only bits and pieces, and to gloss through the ones that are included in the collections in their totality.

Eeeesh yeah Will To Power is basically the most wrong choice you can make. Never read Will To Power. Fuck that book.

A good starting point (beyond getting the Portable Viking or something, which is a route that I've never liked but that could work for you) is probably Beyond Good And Evil or Genealogy of Morals.

Wait, what's the deal with The Will to Power?

"Will To Power" isn't actually a book by Friedrich Nieztsche. "Will To Power" is a posthumous selection of unpublished excerpts from Nietzsche's diary made by his sister. Who was an idiot and a proto-Nazi. It's... it's pretty deeply problematic.

Oh ok. I thought it was something of his. So that's how people ended up thinking he was a Nazi/anti-semite?

That is a huge part of it, yeah. (The other part of it is that a lot of people who were anti-Semites and Nazis misinterpreted Nietzsche and then talked a lot about how awesome it was that he was an anti-Semite Nazi)
