Hi /lit/
I just finished reading Longus' Daphnis and Chloe, and really enjoyed it
Are there any other pieces of ancient Greek lit you guys would recommend (aside from the Iliad, Odyssey, Oedipus Rex, etc.)?

Prometheus bound.

I guess your "etc." includes Aeneid by Vergil? And have you looked into Theogony by Hesiod?

Robert Graves's Greek mythography.

Yeah, just looking for some lesser-known stuff that I haven't read.

I will definitely look into Theogony, >>2880329

Thanks for the suggestions

Not really lit, but The Presocratic Philosophers by Kirk & Raven really get into the cosmogony and Greek world-view. Just get the pre-1983 edition. Some idiot edited the thing and made what was the definitive text on the topic complete trash.

The Theban plays.

I enjoy Aristophanes' comedies as well, but there is a slight learning curve, in terms of knowing one or two things about Athenian politics needed to understand a lot of the inside jokes. That said, you can get pretty far just knowing that Cleon is a politician & general whom Aristophanes despises.

woops, I see that you mentioned Oedipus in OP; ignore the Theban plays bit, unless you weren't also aware of Antigone being part of that series.

Nietzsche's book "Philosophy in the Tragic Age of the Greeks" is mind-blowing. I think it's actually his best book.
