Whether you should read Deleuze or Adorno really depends on who you are. From the fact that you said 'late capitalism' and 'modernity' rather than 'the postmodern condition', I gather that you would like to read some Marxism. How about reading situationist pieces, Debord or Vaneigem? Or some autonomist poetry maybe? You will soon realize that the best 20th century Marxists are those that are really closer to anarchism than any marxism proper.

I've read a bit of Debord. I like what he's got to say but I think he goes a bit far in some cases. A little too mad, for my tastes. But I haven't read that much of him.
