Your core can't contain of a several lists with a shitload of books within them. This is about the absolute diamonds of all of those list.

What's with the crossed-out ones? More importantly, why is Blood Meridian crossed out?

I don't know. I assume the guy who posted it before was crossing out the ones he read.

That seems pretty accurate, seconding fuck On The Road. Nbody lieks that shit except hipster girls

>> No.2768406

The only authors common and dear to all elitists here are:
Joyce
Pynchon
DFW
and maybe McCarthy
Those are seriously the only ones. Sure, there others mentioned occasionally, like Kafka, Borges, Dostoevsky, Woolf, Bolaño, what have you, but either too few have read them or they're too readable to become circlejerk material.

Tao Lin is just a troll name.

read < 10 books for the mandatory lit courses and hated all of them (think victorian novels, american modernism, poststructuralism)

>> No.2768915

C&P has to be on this list, I don't think, in the two or so years I've been coming to /lit/, I've ever seen hatred towards it. Everyone loves 1984 and Brave New World, but they are far too high-school to meet with broad approval for any kind of /lit/core style list.

Lolita, again, everyone seems to like at some level.

Blood Meridian is also high on the '/lit/ approved' list.

AP is not. DFW is an unaborted trolling attempt gone wrong long ago. As is Finnegan's Wake.

/lit/ could never agree without intra-trolling itself to a useless result.

Perhaps a list of 7 novellas could be a good start, /lit/ seems to agree alot more on that level. Camus, Wilde, Hemingway, Orwell (Animal Farm) for example.

that's hardly ever discussed. there are books /lit/ generally hates (50 shades and on the road) which I think should go on the essential just so that people can be informed when they comment on it which they will inevitably want to do in order to tell us how bad they are
