Some kids from my Uni have put together a band that sounds like La Dispute and all of their lyrics are based on the works of Herman Hesse. Needless to say it's fucking terrible

I'd suggest you read Siddhartha instead of skipping it. The book is real short, and you could finish it in one sitting.

Steppenwolf is all right in itself, though.
