What's your most preferred publisher? I always seem to try and find penguin books.

>> No.2661562

I enjoy vintage.

>> No.2661567

I like Everyman's Library when I can get it.

If not, Penguin's good too, because they normally have good introductions etc.

Vintage has my favorite covers.

I hate Penguin's covers. I'm tired of that stupid black section on the bottom with the author in orange. Looks boring as shit. Fuck Penguin.

Always check the individual translation, version, and specific requirements of a book before buying it.

The Penguin version might be abridged, or using a deprecated translation, or lack proper maps, or have all the footnotes in the back, etc., etc.

Generally Penguin, Bloomsbury or Profile for history books.
Oxford Press for philosophy.
Vintage for classic fiction, not just for the great looking covers, but because they often make use of the best translators (e.g the Volokhonskys for Russian lit).

Anything other than that and I usually stick with penguin. They have the best range and overall quality of any publish, imho.
