I know quite alot of him as a person, but i lack knowledge of his impact on rome, if he had any at all. If someone cares to help me out, it would be much apreciated!

His wars on multiple fronts strongly hastened the decline and fall of the empire.

His decision to make his son his successor went against the contemporary trend, and his son was really, really, shitty.

So basically he sucked, both by failing in war and by forcing a shitty emperor on Rome after his death. Meditations is really good, but had no impact on anything during his lifetime, really.

I thought that his wars also led to more land for the empire. and he was also called the last of the 5 great emperors? there must be something there that makes him good? As far as i understand, it was only because of Commodus that it failed. Because he used all the money on games in his honor, instead of finnishing the wars.

>> No.2642435

was he that stoic that wrote all kindsa stuff? or am i thinking of a different guy? roman names are so hard to keep track of

it's a little too late to ask, but come on, can i get just, like, ten more first names? please?

If i'm correct the size of the Empire peaked under Trajan. He is traditionally seen as one of the Five Good Emperors, but if I recall from AHM Jones he places a lot of the trends that lead to the fall as beginning with MA.

Although neither you or I have time to read much before the presentation. It's of my opinion that he overstreched the Empire. You'll note that the two frontiers that he is fighting on are the main two that fail in later years. But you could go either way on your presentation, really.

Yes, he was a Stoic, he's the father of Commodus in "The Gladiator". He wrote the book "to myself" i think. So i do have a decent information about the guy. But my presentation centers around what his impact on Rome was, if his Stoic philosphy, or the fact that he was nearly never present in Rome, have an affect on Rome itself? It's for my History and Philosphy class.

Go on wikipedia. Read his page completely.
Then read about his son, completely.

It'll help you more then we can. At least for the time being, there definitely are people who could help you, but it seems like they're not here atm.

In 1581 Ivan beat his pregnant daughter-in-law for wearing immodest clothing, and this may have caused a miscarriage. His son, also named Ivan, upon learning of this, engaged in a heated argument with his father, resulting in Ivan striking his son in the head with his pointed staff, causing his son's death.[citation needed] This event is depicted in the famous painting by Ilya Repin, Ivan the Terrible and his son Ivan on Friday, 16 November 1581 better known as Ivan the Terrible killing his son.
