I would suggest getting a Kobo. I am grateful for a friend giving me an extra one that she had, and thanks to her, I was able read anything I felt like just about anywhere. And the best part is that you can just copy and paste "pirated" books, pdf files, etc, right into a folder. It doesn't have a touch-screen, but that really didn't bother me at all, and I found that all of the books I kept on there were really easily accessible. I'd suggest going with a Kobo.

I have that specific Kindle (I believe that it was 79 dollars). There isn't any ads while you're actually reading, though. You can press the power button once to put the Kindle into sleep mode. What would normally come up as a nice picture of a fountain pen or what-have-you now comes up as an advertisement. If you don't want to walk around with an add on the front of your kindle, simply hold the power button for 5 more seconds.

Honestly, it's hardly even noticeable, and some of the offers are actually pretty good.
