2619208 No.2619208 [Reply] [Original]

Hey there, /lit/. I just finished watching Aoi Bungaku, and have become intensely interested in acquiring a copy of the actual No Longer Human book. Can any of you point me in the direction of where I can get in .pdf format, or am I doomed to buying it from B&N et. al.?

>> No.2619230

Someone finally needs to purchase and transcribe this book for the Internet. I might do it this summer if I can get my hands on a copy.

>> No.2619248 [DELETED]

There's a copy out, but it's full of typos and formatting errors.

>> No.2619271

Ebay.

Amazon didn't carry it, but they had Dazai's other books.

>> No.2619287

Is this book whiny and sentimental?

>> No.2619298

>>2619287

It's pretty depressing.

>> No.2619322

I have it right here OP, you want me to scan it for you?

>> No.2619328

>>2619322
We've had the offer before. Nobody has ever followed through.

>> No.2619341

>>2619328
Aw shit. Its translated to swedish. Sorry man, thought i had it in english.

Its only like 165 pages, might take an hour or two to scan.

>> No.2619343

These threads pop up quite a lot but this book just doesn't exist on the internet. It fucking sucks, I know.

>> No.2620044

>>2619322
please

>> No.2620063

We actually had a guy take photos of all the pages a while back, and he was working on transcribing it. He uploaded what he had done so far, which is maybe 1/3 of the book transcribed.

But it does have entirely readable pages in the photos of the entire book. I'm trying to put it up on dropbox now.

cant find any good japanese stuff online

>> No.2620101

>>2620091
We have the entire Japanese lit folder, which you might find good:

Mishima, Kawabata, Abe, Soseki, Akutagawa, Tanizaki, etc.

>> No.2620116

>>2620101

What formats are they in?

>> No.2620117

>>2620116
Lots of different kinds - .pdf, .mobi, .txt, .rtf. But you can use Calibre to convert them, if you want. A couple are just straight .pdf scans though.

>> No.2620127

>>2620117
Did you update it yet?

>> No.2620144

>>2620127
I was going to wait, but I'm uploading the newer version now.

And for the OP and everyone, here's the No Longer Human pictures:

Sweet.

Did my Soseki work?

>> No.2620177

>>2620155
Yep!

And here's Japanese lit v7:

New additions are
>Abe, Kobo - The Face of Another
>Enchi, Fumiko - A Tale of False Fortune
>Inoue, Yasushi - Tun-huang
>Mishima, Yukio - Thirst For Love
>Oe, Kenzaburo - A Personal Matter
>Soseki, Natsume - To the Spring Equinox and Beyond
>Ueda, Akinari - Tales of Moonlight and Rain

I also added a little biographies folder with articles taken from Gale Literary Database. For anyone who wants biographical info a bit deeper than Wikipedia for some of the authors.

Do rars like this exist for other countries?

>> No.2620192

>>2620188
No, but I'd be willing to work on some for a few of the other countries I'm interested in (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, China). Not sure about how much interest there'd be for those on /lit/ though. And we'd probably want to make rec charts for the first three first.

Fucking siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick. Cheers
>>2620193
She's a chick, so there wouldn't be a dick to suck. If a Russian one is started, at least my Russian shelf on Goodreads can help find titles for it

>> No.2620201

>>2620193
Eh, those would probably be too extensive to really feasibly do. You could easily get most English classics off Gutenberg. Maybe someone else will have interest in doing them.

>> No.2620210

>>2620200
If only you kept your ebooks and didn't delete them after reading, caps! The Russian one would have practically already been made.

>> No.2620212

>>2620210
Yeah, such a pity.

Oh well!

Glad to see you're keeping the Japanese folder going though, got me back into Japanese reading again.

my library (in japan) has all of dazai's works in english. i actually just checked out and finished blue bamboo. transcribing is a lot of work though.

>> No.2620309

>>2620304
Does the library have one of those book scanning machines? My university library has one free to use for the students, but I don't know about public libraries. They're really quick for scanning whole books.

>> No.2620314

>>2620308
Which two are you thinking of doing?

>> No.2620316

>>2620309
You're very lucky to have access to that machine. It would really undercut the cutthroat photocopier prices we have to pay at my U library. I'd just scan everything and send it to my computer.

i made that "offer" a few weeks back.
i have the intention of doing it but i have no time atm.

Good thread

>> No.2620414

>>2620350
The one I linked in >>2620144 is partially transcribed, and includes pictures of all the pages. It's totally readable as is through the pictures, but it would be great if you finished transcribing it when you get the time.

>> No.2620647

>>2620414
mm transcribe? u mean like typing the whole thing? lol wft
i will sure scan it and give it a decent presentation but who da fuck would type it? there are programs to get text from images anyway.

>> No.2620696

>>2620350

This is late as fuck but could you do me a solid and upload a good clean scan of that cover?

>> No.2620702

1. Make a pastebin or google docs.

2. Get a few different people and divide up the pages.

3. Finish it up in a few hours

It would be ridiculously simple on GoogleDocs.
It already fucking OCR's the images when you upload them so all that is left is to proofread.
