Someone finally needs to purchase and transcribe this book for the Internet. I might do it this summer if I can get my hands on a copy.

There's a copy out, but it's full of typos and formatting errors.

Ebay.

Amazon didn't carry it, but they had Dazai's other books.

We actually had a guy take photos of all the pages a while back, and he was working on transcribing it. He uploaded what he had done so far, which is maybe 1/3 of the book transcribed.

But it does have entirely readable pages in the photos of the entire book. I'm trying to put it up on dropbox now.

Lots of different kinds - .pdf, .mobi, .txt, .rtf. But you can use Calibre to convert them, if you want. A couple are just straight .pdf scans though.

No, but I'd be willing to work on some for a few of the other countries I'm interested in (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, China). Not sure about how much interest there'd be for those on /lit/ though. And we'd probably want to make rec charts for the first three first.

Does the library have one of those book scanning machines? My university library has one free to use for the students, but I don't know about public libraries. They're really quick for scanning whole books.

You're very lucky to have access to that machine. It would really undercut the cutthroat photocopier prices we have to pay at my U library. I'd just scan everything and send it to my computer.

It would be ridiculously simple on GoogleDocs.
It already fucking OCR's the images when you upload them so all that is left is to proofread.
