My first reaction was, HOW DARE THEM FUCK WITH THE PURITY OF READING. IT IS UNFUCKWITHABLE.

Then I read a book on my iPhone and found it pretty enjoyable.

There's advantages/disadvantages to physical books and eBooks.

For instance, you can have a bookshelf full of physical books, so you can appear to be smart when you have guests over. Something that can't be done with the Kindle.

Do you prefer to own books in non-physical form then?

I'm not referring to the act of reading them. I'm referring to purchasing and possessing them.

>> No.2527606

They're very practical. They will never fully replace physical books, as not everyone can afford them.

Not that guy, but I prefer owning the actual book. However, I do most of my reading on my Kindle these days, simply because the books are far more easily obtained. Having said that, if I enjoyed it, I buy it. I may come off as some pseudo-intellectual trying to make himself look intelligent, but truth be told I'm just a collector. I see it as being no different to one who has a DVD collection.

I've always wondered what the general consensus is on e-reading. I've tried it on an iPad but I eventually went back to physical books. I still prefer the feeling of having the book in my hands instead of a tablet when reading.

Thing is that I buy my books from Half-Price Books, so they're cheaper than buying eBooks for me right now. Only reason I have Kindle in my iPhone is because I'm using my girlfriend's account to read her books. Though, if I had the money to choose, I would most likely buy impressive sounding books as a physical copy to put on my shelf, and I'd probably buy whatever else for the Kindle.

At the end of the day, there really isn't much of a difference. If for some reason you prefer physical over digital, then so be it. But as long as you're reading the book and enjoying yourself, who really gives a fuck about it being on a Kindle or being on paper.

Since I got one, (keyboard) about 2 months ago i've read maybe 10 books on it. Books i got for free, I paid 85 for the device, say each book costs 9, it's paid for itself.

Hey /lit/, I'm going 5 days to the beach to relax, and I plan to spend most of my time reading. I would love to hear some recommendations for someone that is not an advanced level reader. So far I've got the Catcher in the Rye and The Stranger.

Do it faggot, they have a policy of return flexible enough. (20 days or some shit like that)
To be honest, I was extremely curious and knew the advantages before buying one.
But in France, nobody has one, I've search for week aomeone to let me try it.
Last month: Fuck it, I'm tired of this shit, let's buy the fucker without trying it.
Best blind-decision I've ever made.

Are the French bookfags in the extreme? How is France doing culturally?

>> No.2528067

Amazon prefers to play it cool w/ the kindle in France. There's only 2 models accessible and not much publicity.
A girl thought I bought a fake Ipad; it was mentally hard to decide between laughing at her or heavy sarcasm. I settled for a nice explanation.
Culturally? All my friends are reading Hunger games or Stephen King.
Feels bad, man
