Completely agree. If my house ever burns down I'll take the philosophy and leave the novels.

It's kind of an immature POV IMO.

I hadn't really appreciated the art of fiction for most of my life. I saw it mostly as an activity that was empty in calories, as opposed to non-fiction where you actually learn something concrete. This preconception was flat out wrong and I had only recently solidified the idea that it is key to our development, not just personally but societally. We must be challenged by ideas and good fiction will do this. It has to tackle an idea and explore the depths of thought through either conversation or seeding a thought process, leaving us enlightened or at least changed even if only by a tiny amount. If we should be wiser at the end, being forced to consider the issues at hand and experience new conceptions of life, we find that fiction done correct and non-fiction are nearly identical. A good story and good art can be measured as such.

Even so, the point of the guy who pasted the definition was that smartness is not dependent on what we read, the OP's preposition was that what we read is dependent on smartness.

wait so I'm now not sure why he pasted the definition, i was originally on his side too. What the fuck my world is collapsing though the use of logic and reason.
