ITT: Books you've been waiting for

Pic related, five years and counting. Also thoughts on this series, I'm assuming it's hated.

These people hate fantasy. They are elitist snobs who only few non-fiction as any good.

Don't listen to them.

Oh, I know, that's why I assumed it was hated. Fun read though, even if it isn't well written. Decently plotted at least, imaginative worldbuilding too.

sci-fi is a thousand times better than fantasy.

They're not in competition.

I see it.

There's really nothing you're anticipating?

>> No.2477452

I don't think I've been waiting on any for 5 years, but there are plenty of English translations of works whose release I've been anticipating for a while. Do those still count for this thread?

Woo! Some of the ones I'm especially excited for:

>Amsterdam Stories by Nescio
>Harlequin's Millions by Bohumil Hrabal
>The High Life by Jean-Pierre Martinet
>Pataphysical Essays by René Dauma
>Sea of Ink by Richard Weihe
>Dreamverse by Jindrich Styrsky
>The Lute and the Scars by Danilo Kis
>An Unending Landscape by Toomas Vint
>The Heaven-Bearer by Riikka Pelo

I'm one of the few who enjoyed Red Skies more than Lies.

Lies seemed to be trying too hard to be edgy (all that swearing, the sudden cull at the end). Red Skies felt a bit more natural and I ready to just accept the hustle aspect of the series instead of trying to nitpick.

So I'm optimistic about Republic whenever it finally arrives. Lynch's short for the Swords & Dark Magic compilation last year, "In The Stacks", was really great (maybe the best story there amongst competition from the likes of Abercrombie, Erikson, Cook, Moorcock). So I think his writing is moving in the right direction and am hopeful.

I've seen this cover a few times now, and each time I'm like "wut."

Hah, yeah, I love the design on Wakefield Press' covers. None of the others are quite that wut, but they're all really sleek.

Did not read In The Stacks, good to know. I enjoyed the gambling and sword training elements of Red Seas more than anything else that I recall.
