Hey /lit/, I have trouble visualizing characters/scenery when I read. I usually have to really force myself to paint a mental image of what's going on in a novel, but it's not at all hard for me to follow what's going on.

Is this normal? Do you guys have any tips to help visualize while reading?

Do you watch a lot of movies? Try stimulating your visual imagination or something.

I usually need to take scenery from my real life, sometimes combining a bunch of real places to make one imagined one.

I don't watch many movies, but I play a decent amount of video games. One problem I have is that when I'm visualizing a character, it tends to be an amalgamation of a few other distinct characters that I'm already familiar with. Like, when I was a kid, I couldn't stop imagining Ron Weasley as appearing like the T-Rex from Toy Story. I don't even fucking know why.

That's a really good idea actually, I'll try incorporating scenery/people from real life into my imagination next time I'm reading.
