ok, i guess i should specify. yes, i am american, and it pisses me off when americans do it. i understand that in the uk (and maybe australia), "whilst" is still commonly used. in america, though, it's archaic/not part of our english. i get mad at americans saying it for the same reason i get mad at americans for saying shit like "wanker," "jolly good," "bloody," etc. you just sound like a pretentious ass.
