Wow, nice one, bro. Did you really read all of it?

Also funny how everyone on this board claims that they're read Infinite Jest and are bashing on it, but only one person posted in this thread. Sure they did read Infinite Jest, just as they read Ulysses.

Now I'm really convinced that /lit/ knows nothing about DFW, they're just trying too hard to be hipster by hating him.

none of those editions of those books are really conducive to having cracked spines. they stay open perfectly fine just lying on the spine, and the spines themselves are really stiff.

almost none of my books have cracked spines, sans a few penguin classics (and of course mass market paperbacks), and I'm always sort of confused as to how so many people on lit seem to think that if a book was literally not bent back around itself (as that's what it would probably take to crack the IJ spine, for example), it's unread.

I'm unsure if it's a good idea to read it in English because it's not my native language. Good eye, that is indeed LETTERS.

I initially thought it would be a lark to make LETTERS the first Barth novel I read, to make it a bit of an experiment to see how the quality of writing stood up without the prior stories informing it. Prior to this I had attempted to read Chimera and abandoned it a few pages in because of a disinterest in the frank sexuality.

Eventually however I found the Anchor repress of his first two novels used for a buck, and picked those up on whim. I enjoyed it more than I expected and I feel now like I should actually read the first six novels before LETTERS. I'm still dreading Giles and Chimera but looking forward to The Sot-Weed Factor and Funhouse.

Infinite Jest just uses a big vocabulary and tends to ramble on about one thing for too long (or not long enough, depending). GR tends to jump around a lot, a sometimes it's hard to keep track of who's doing what, something that I never had an issue with with with IJ.
Haven't read The Recognitions. It's on the pile, though.

Pynchon seemed to almost write with the intent of making it something you have to "solve". He was rarely straightforward in his sentence structure and had a tendency towards superfluous tangents that provided nothing for the narrative itself. When one encounters a page of material entirely about bananas or has to spend time looking up something about V-2 rockets, one would naturally assume this has purpose towards the greater narrative. In this case it really didn't and that is obnoxious.

M83, Atlas Sound, EMA, Cults, DyE, A Lull, La Dispute, Gang Gang Dance and that new Idaho record were also pretty good.

Panda Bear and Radiohead were really disapointing.

M83 was good, but imo it's nothing compared to his previous efforts. Pitchfork introduced me to EMA which was surprisingly really cool. La Dispute is okay, but why would anyone want to listen to them when you have At the Drive-In. Didn't listen to other albums you listed. Also The Weeknd was great.

Because it's the best thing on /lit/ at the moment.

Not to say this is a good thread -(the mods on any other board would have deleted it hours ago). More to say this is a truly awful board.
