The truth is no one really knows since knowledge gets more murky as you go further back, basically before the Andal invasion it was mostly an oral tradition so shit gets very mythical past that point(insert Norse equivalency).
What they do know is they're the only one of the ruling houses still descended from the first men, IE the Andals didn't take over by force or integration there because of "the king who knelt". Thus the bloodline remained.

It's almost like Game of Thrones sucks and is massively overrated, huh? GRRM is a terrible writer, and bites off way more than he can chew in terms of characters, plots, worldbuilding, etc. Then eventually it all comes back to bite him in the ass, and that is why he hasn't published a sequel since 2011 and had to write new shit to end the show (poorly)
